How does a 30-year-old woman with a sensible job, a sensible wardrobe, and a sensible family end up as an adult entertainer? One breathy phone call at a time.
Richmond’s own Jennifer Lemons, also known as The Checkout Girl, will premiere her solo show, Loosely Based on a Real Girl, on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Barksdale's Theatre Gym at the Empire Theatre.
Loosely Based on a Real Girl is the story of someone who had never said a curse word falling backward into a world where women in telephone headsets pretend to be anything you want them to be, for only $4.99 per minute. A world where nothing is what you think it is, no one is who you think they are, and, once you experience it, you’ll never be able to ask “What are you wearing?” with a straight face, again.
One part storyteller and one part comedian, Jennifer Lemons has lived a crazy life, and is happy to tell everyone about it. She is the author of the popular series 100 Bad Dates that appeared on RVANews.com, and currently writes the weekly column Off The Clock for the same site. She is a regular contributor to BelleMagazine. Jennifer has a twitter.com following nearly 6,000 strong as The Checkout Girl, and was voted among twitter’s best by the readers of both Richmond Magazine and Style Weekly. She is also listed as one of "Our Favorite Comedians" by the popular comedy website FunnyOrDie.com. She was a featured performer in Richmond Comedy Coalition’s series Richmond Famous, as well as the Valentine’s Day extravaganza, Prisoners of Love.
Doors and bar will open at 8pm, with the show starting at 9. Come early to mingle with fellow debutantes, dillettantes, and curious folk, then stick around after the 60 minute show for a meet and greet. This material is best suited to those who watched Sabrina, The Teenage Witch and remember Britney and Christina as Mouseketeers, as it deals with some grownup subjects.
Loosely Based on a Real Girl premieres on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 9pm. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Seating is general admission and advance tickets are recommended. For more information, call 804-921-5705.
